Pompeii Site is falling apart literally

I personally have lamented that the Italians don’t have a good record of taking care of their heritage.  Pompeii is a good example.   The site is need of repair.  Walls are literally falling down in the site and much is in horrible state of disrepair.   More than a dozen buildings are expected to crumble into ruin in the next couple of years.  For example last year rain caused the arch of the temple of Venus to fall.  A current article by the Smithsonian details some of the major issues, which there are many.
