c) David Murgatroyd, Jeffrey Lavoie writes (Cauldron No. 155 and Journal of the Western Mystery Tradition Spring 2012) about this magician who practised in West Yorkshire 1960s to 1980s. He worked from a personal grimoire with an elaborate origination narrative involving an ancestor, the Rosicrucian publishers of the original Lamp of Thoth and traditions of magic going back to Michael Scot in the 13th Century. The magic he practiced utilised narcotic fumigations and tarot used to cause magical change. Most of the founders of Chaos Magic lived in that part of Britain and he knew them. One can see Murgatroyd’s influence on Chaos Magic, even though his very tradition orientated practice had a  different flavour. A cynic might suggest that the Chaoists learnt from Murgatroyd that useful systems of magic, their attendant glamours and antecedents can be created at will, but this begs the question where Murgatroyd learnt this lesson. His grimoire has never been published. The executors of his will followed his instructions to publish these two books which are now incredibly scarce
