Grandiloquent Word of the Day’s FB feed has current word as “Thelemite (THEL•uh•mite)”
Noun:
-One who does as he or she pleases.
-A person who leads an immoral life and is mainly interested in pleasure.
-A freethinker especially in religious matters.
-A person who is unrestrained by convention or morality.
Thelema is the name of the philosophical school and religious matrix established in 1904 with the writing of Liber AL vel Legis (The Book of the Law) by Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) and stands on the central axiom, the Law of Thelema.
Used in a sentence:
“He’s so buttoned up at the office, but take him to the club and get a few drinks in him and he’s a full-on thelemite!”
Richard Kaczynski sez: Too bad those first two definitions have confused Thelema with what Crowley explicitly said it was NOT.
and someone else sez: Yes. But I thought it was neat to randomly see that word referenced.
I’d observe that perhaps St. Rabelais would get a chuckle out of it.
