Godspeed, Bill Heidrick

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

My old friend and mentor William Emmet Heidrick has died. You’ll be seeing a lot of people posting their memories of Bill. I’m going to leave it to others to attempt to list all of his contributions, and I wish them luck. It’s impossible to overstate the magnitude of his service to the development of the modern O.T.O. and the world community of Thelemites, not just in his Treasury and administrative roles, but also as a scholar and archivist, and as a senior member who was always willing to engage in friendly correspondence with…basically anyone. O.T.O. would be a very different organization without his influence, and I honestly doubt that I’d be a member of it. He was one of the nicest, funniest, and most idealistic (and stubborn) people I have ever met.

Thank you for all you gave us, Bill. I’ll miss you. May you be granted the accomplishment of your True Will.

Love is the Law, love under will.

  1. Bill was the first Thelemite I met. I, along with six other wannabes, showed up at his home in the wee hours one Friday morning after driving up from LA in two cars. Bill welcomed us, pointed out sleeping spaces, and drew my attention to his Coke machine cum beer cooler (read that as you will). Later that day, he got us to Grand Lodge on San Pablo St where the Minervals would be held; all 13 of them. It turned out to be the perfect environment to secure my allegiance to OTO.
