2012 Seghesio Family Vineyards Sonoma County Zinfandel

Color – dark ruby.

Nose – black fruits, dried herbs, spice and even a touch of smoked meat.

Initial taste – smooth and a bit brambly wine full of black cherry and black raspberry fruit plus some lovely spice notes.

Finish  – medium-bodied Zin also features nice touches of vanilla, chocolate and wonderful dusty tannins that lead into the long, dry finish.

Wine is  87% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% Carignane and 2% Syrah from Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, California.  This wine was one of  Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines for 2013.   An excellent buy!!!

Ixel Balamke was one of the two founding members of Sekhet-Bast-Ra in Oklahoma City. Currently living in the Twin Cities, she is currently the LBM of Leaping Laughter Lodge. She also is a Meanad and lover of fine wines. Her life long partner Hunahpu and she are well known for their Wine Tastings at NOTOCON. Together they have a small wine cellar that currently holds over 300 bottles.
