New York, NY: Dodd, Mead, & Company, 1928. Fourth Printing. Hardcover, 8vo, xxiv + 344pp. Original blue cloth with gilt titling and design to front board and gilt titling to spine. B/w illustrations and charts. An attractive early edition. In 1915 – 1916, whilst in America, Aleister Crowley wrote a work called ‘The General Principles of Astrology Liber DXXXVI’, apparently at the behest of the enormously popular ‘society’ astrologer Evangeline Adams. Adams heavily edited the work and published it under her own name in two separate volumes, this book being the first volume. It proved enormously popular and almost certainly outsold any book published under Crowley’s own name during his lifetime. Slight rubbing to the to cloth at head & tail of spine and points, which are lightly bruised, a few minor marks to boards. Still the cloth and gilt-work is quite fresh. Pages evenly toned. A solid, tight, clean VG+ copy (without dust jacket). Item #71123
