Oldest Passages of The Koran Found in Birmingham, UK Library

England’s Daily Mail. among other British news sources, reports the discovery, earlier this Summer, of pages of the Koran that have now been carbon dated to  between 568 and 645EV. This would make it the oldest Koranic scripture in existience.  The Muslim Prophet Muhammad is widely considered to have lived between 570 and 632 and Islamic tradition holds that  Caliph Abu Bakr, the first Islamic leader after the death of Muhammad’s death ordered the Koranic material to be collected into a book which has led some historians to point out that these pages could have been written before Muhuammed was born and certainly before he was supposed to have received this material as Divine revelation. Though it’s equally possible that their writing falls entirely into the timeframe held by devout Muslims.
