The Prophet of the Lovely Star’s “Rights of Man” manifesto includes the line: “Man has the right to love as he will, when, where and whom he will.” And indeed, many modern Thelemites exercise that freedom to participate in open relationships, polyamory and other forms of intimate consensual relations with multiple partners. The New York Times Sunday Magazine recently profiled a “polycule,” a situation the author describes as:
‘The word “polycule” is a synthesis of polyamory — engaging in multiple romantic relationships — and molecule. It’s not clear when the word was coined, but it seems to have started catching on around 15 years ago to suggest an intricate structure formed of people with overlapping deep attachments: romantic, sexual, sensual, platonic. ‘
