Scientific journal Nature recently posted a piece on possible reasons why socially imposed monogamy could have become popular in human societies. After pointing out the evolutionary advantage to breeeding as quickly and producing as much variation as possible, the article proceeds to state:
“We use a simulation model to explore how interactions between group size, sexually transmitted infection (STI) dynamics and social norms can explain the timing and emergence of socially imposed monogamy.”
