Here’s an excerpt from Jason Miller’s Magick Monday Newsletter, he sent out earlier this week:
Day by Day I weigh myself but there isn’t much difference, some days I even go up a pound – but over a month I lost 10 pounds.
Day by Day there isn’t much change in my bank account, but after a year I have a nice five figure investment to make in retirement.
Day by Day there isn’t much change in my relationships, but after a decade this the ediface that my whole life revolves around.
This is how I think most magic should be handled. Small regular work will get you further than a few large bombastic workings.
You don’t need to undergo special purifications if you are constantly in ritual. You don’t need to banish powers you invoked if you get used to having the spirits around you all the time.
There are some people who bounce from thing to thing, looking for the one evocation that is going to make the god appear in UHD, or the one spell with a result so miraculous that they have no doubt about the reality of their magic. These things can happen from time to time for sure. They have happened to me, and you have probably had one or two happen to you too. But in the end those aren’t often the things that make the most difference in our lives. It’s the regular practice, the discipline that we carry day to day, and the things that discipline enables us to accomplish, that makes a better life.
All of my teachings function on this basis, and as noted above, Sorcery of Hekate is starting in a few weeks. But even if you don’t want to do that, look at whatever you are doing and figure out the daily discipline as well as the weekly, monthly, and seasonal boosts that will give you that payoff.
