Today, June 17, is the Greater Feast of Sir John Marvel Whiteside “Jack” Parsons, rocket scientist and magician. Born October 2, 1914 e.v., Parsons was Master of Agape Lodge, O.T.O., in Oakland, California, from 1942 until his death in 1952. In honor of his innovations in solid rocket fuel, we bring you this recipe.

Flaming Filet Mignon with Chive Butter

Filet mignon with chive butterFor the butter:

  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 bunch chives, left whole

For the steaks:

  • 4 (8-oz) filet mignon steaks
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 oz brandy
