Here’s an interesting piece reviewing the various myths of Dying Gods who had birthdays on the Winter Solstice. And you can certainly look at how commonly this theme was repeated and take that as proof that they’re all phoney, just empty reiterations of the original narrative…or consider that the survival and popularity of this sort of figure might in fact be a sign of its substance, or at least enduring usefulness. Decide for yourself.
