Man has the right to love as he will:— “take your fill and will of love as ye will, when, where, and with whom ye will.” |
In discussing sex and sexuality, one might forget that not everyone is sexually active or even desirous of being so. More often than not, such people are referred to as being “asexual.” The Asexual Visibility & Education Network (AVEN) tells us, “An asexual person is a person who does not experience sexual attraction.” The Trevor Project website expands, “Love doesn’t have to equal sex.”
Asexuality is a natural thing, just as any other orientation. It’s not that the person hasn’t had the right partner or anything like that. As the AVEN website explains: “Unlike celibacy, which is a choice, asexuality is a sexual orientation. Asexual people have the same emotional needs as everybody else and are just as capable of forming intimate relationships,” the website adds.
Some asexual people want to form intimate relationships, while others don’t. The latter such folks are often referred to as being “aromantic.” You can get an overview of asexuality from AVEN. The Trevor Project offers an FAQ and a list of resources. If you are asexual yourself, you can participate in a study of identities in asexual communities.
