New Discoveries in Pompeii Include Marvelous Lararium

Quartz.com has posted a story about the latest discoveries in the ruins of the Roman town of Pompeii which, famously, was quickly buried in ash and lava from the eruption of the volcano, Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. These include a marvelously decorated lararium, a home shrine to the Lares, Deities who specifically protected households. This lararium has been dubbed the “Enchanted Garden” by Italian media because of its depictions of flowers and other vegetation along with various wild life.
