Grauzone Presenting First Dutch Retrospective Exhibit of The Work of Genesis P-Orridge

Graukunst has announced mounting the first Dutch retrospective of the works of multi-media artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge February 1 – March 1. Location: Billytown,  Helena van Doeverenplantsoen 3, 2512 ZB The Hague (free entrance). Their site states:

“GRAUKUNST, which is part of Grauzone Festival, is pleased to present a unique solo exhibition of works by British artist and musician Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950), one of the most remarkable and groundbreaking artists of the last 50 years. This marks the artists first exhibition in The Netherlands! The exhibition will be on view from February 1 till March 1, 2019 at gallery Billytown in The Hague.

“Genesis Breyer P-ORRIDGE – With an art practice dating back to the late 1960s, Genesis Breyer P-ORRIDGE has reinvented and reintroduced h/erself as groundbreaking performance artist, pioneer of industrial music, “wrecker of civilization”, essayist, and, most recently, as pandrogyne. BREYER P-ORRIDGE has, in every incarnation, remained a dedicated visual artist. As a pioneer of the early Mail Art movement, s/he has created a body of work encompassing sculpture, drawing, design, video, photography, poetry, performance, and expanded collage.

” ‘There is only one artwork…L-if-E’ – The GRAUKUNST exhibition ” There is only one artwork…L-if-E” features more than 30 works of art; drawings, photography, collages, paintings, video, music and sculptures,, several of them displayed for the first time. For the first time ever these works of art are presented in the context of h/er whole life and work: ‘There is only one artwork…L-if-E’

“Many of these works of art come from P-Orridge’s personal collection, but also private collections and the New York Gallery Invisible Exports. P-Orridge has had many big exhibitions, including Tate Britain,  Andy Warhol Museum, ICA Philadelphia and the Rubin Museum in New York which was chosen by the New York Times as one of the best art exhibitions of 2016

“New works 2019 – Genesis Breyer P-Orridge has made two new works of arts, specially made for this exhibition, they will be displayed for the first time ever!

“About Genesis BREYER P-ORRIDGE (b. 1950, Manchester, UK) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, poet, performance artist, and occultist. After rising to notability as the founder of the COUM Transmissions artistic collective and then fronting the industrial band Throbbing Gristle and experimental band Psychic TV. BREYER P-ORRIDGE has been cited as an icon within the avant-garde art scene, accrued a cult following, and been given the moniker of the ‘Godperson of Industrial Music’.”
