“Be goodly therefore: dress ye all in fine apparel; eat rich foods and drink sweet wines and wines that foam!” Tis the season for champagne and sparkling wines!!! FYI, champagne means that the wine was made in the Champagne District of France and sparkling is just a wine that is made in the method of champagne but not made in the District of Champagne that is the only difference. There are a number of great sparkling wines that are under $20.
My personal favorite is Chateau St. Michelle Brut. It sells around $11 a bottle and I’ve found it as low as $9 around this time of year. It is a a blend of 63% Chardonnay, 19% Pinot Noir, 18% Pinot Gris. The wine is from the Columbia Valley of Washington state.
Color – pale yellow.
Aroma – citrus with notes of vanilla.
Initial taste – apples and citrus.
Finish – lush, crisp fruit with vanilla and creme brulee in the final notes.
