Today, March 30, is Turkey Neck Soup Day. It’s Take A Walk In The Park Day and World Bipolar Day. In the United States it’s also National Doctors’ Day and National Virtual Vacation Day. On this day in 1981, John Hinckley shot President Reagan, also wounding White House press secretary James Brady, Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy and a District of Columbia police officer, Thomas Delahanty.
This is a food blog post, though, so we’ll be discussing Turkey Neck Soup. The Turkey Neck is a sadly neglected part of the bird, because it’s not easy to get the meat off of the bones until it’s cooked. It’s worth it, though. Why waste a perfectly good source of protein?
