England’s occult publishing powerhouse Hadean Press announced the release of three new titles devoted to the magick of the Catholic bishop Saint Cyprian of Antioch
Today is the feast day of Saint Cyprian of Antioch, the infamous sorcerer-saint. He and his beloved Justina were allegedly martyred on this day at Nicomedia, in 304 C.E. Whether or not their story is historically accurate no longer matters. Their books and prayers have infiltrated our occult world, and those of us who work with them know their powers are real. Hadean’s offering on this feast day is three new Cyprian texts from three different regions – three new ways to engage with the Saint and his magic.
From Iberia we have the Cypriani Magici Septem Horae Magicae, a long-lost Book of Saint Cyprian, rumored to have existed but frustratingly lost to the mists of time – until it wasn’t. From Scandinavia we have Cyprianus: St. Cyprian and the Black Book in Scandinavian Folklore, a translation of Danish legends relating to the Cyprianus which broadens our understanding of the cultural and folk-magical context of this fabled grimoire. From Byzantium we have The Greek Prayer of St. Cyprian: A Medieval Phylactery, an apotropaic prayer in which pagan sorcery and Christian exorcism meet.
The hardcover editions of Cypriani Magici Septem Horae Magicae and Cyprianus: St. Cyprian and the Black Book in Scandinavian Folklore are both ready to pre-order now, with the paperbacks to follow in December. The Greek Prayer of St. Cyprian: A Medieval Phylactery is a Guide to the Underworld and can be ordered now in print and epub editions. Of the books, only the Cyprianus is available as an epub as the formatting of the text in the Cypriani Magici will be lost in digital format. Please note that if you order the print edition of The Greek Prayer along with either or both of the books, it will ship with the books, not separately.
