The Legacy of Gnostic Saint Paschal Beverly Randolph

We continue our jag of Randolph-philia contemplating what happened to our newest Gnostic Saint’s legacy after his passing in 1875. R. Swinburne Clymer’s Fraternitas Rosae Crucis claim Randolph as a member and to that end, publish very lovely editions of Paschal’s writings, after Clymer acquired the rights from his widow. He’s listed on their website as a member and a few years ago, they had his body exhumed and reburied on their campus in Quakertown, PA.

However, others claim that Randolph had chosen another heir to promulgate his teachings, Freeman Benjamin Dowd, a fellow African American, whom he designated his successor as Grandmaster of the Triple Order of the Rosy Cross before his demise. During his tenure as Grandmaster Dowd published The Temple of the Rosy Cross: the Soul, its Powers, Migrations and Transmigrations via the Eulian Press imprint. Eulis, of course, was a term coined by Randolph.

Eventually, a Edward Brown, a subsequent Grandmaster of the Triple Order of the Rosy Cross signed a concordat with George Plummer of the Societas Rosicruciana in America to carry on Paschal’s work. https://sria.org/.
