Below find a link to a Ted talk by Dr. Jenny Butler regarding Samhain and the origins of Halloween. The posted description says:
This talk reveals how the modern celebration of Halloween originates in the ancient Irish festival of Samhain. Through folklore, myth, seasonal rituals, and early Christian influences, the speaker traces how Samhain evolved, travelled to America with Irish emigrants, and returned to the world as “Halloween.” Dr. Jenny Butlers clear message: yes—Halloween is originally Irish. Dr Jenny Butler is a Lecturer at University College Cork where she teaches courses on mythology, folk religion, new religious movements, and Western esotericism.
