November 3 marks the 691st anniversary of Petronilla de Meath, the servant of Dame Alice Kyteler (1280 – later than 1325), being flogged and burnt at the stake in connection with Kyteler being accused of witchcraft and of having sex with a demon in ht 14th century. Kyteler is the first person to be brought to trial on charges of witchcraft in Ireland. Read one account here:
