Novelist, Screenwriter, Comics Writer Paul Cornell recently announced a new project, a graphic novel called The Witches of World War Two that features the Prophet of the Lovely Star and other notable of the early 20th century occult scene. His blog stated:
“Coming out in March 2023 from TKO Presents is The Witches of World War Two, an original graphic novel by myself, artist Valeria Burzo, colour artist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Simon Bowland. It’s historical fiction about five real-life practitioners of magic in Britain in the 1940s, giving them an adventure against the Nazis which isn’t actual, but is, I hope, plausible. Our main protagonist is Doreen Dominy, later Doreen Valiente, and I worked with the Doreen Valiente Foundation to make sure we were true to her character. With her are Aleister Crowley, Dion Fortune, Gerald Gardner and Rollo Ahmed, and I hope that this book encourages people to read more about these amazing people. It’s about a small group of eccentric outsiders against the real horrors of fascism. I’m tremendously proud of what we’ve achieved here, I love the art, and I can’t wait for people to read it.
“You can pre-order the book from Amazon US and Amazon UK at those links, and from any online or physical bookshop. (The UK link hasn’t quite got itself sorted yet, but you know how these things go, it’ll get there in a few days.)
“In the meantime, you can read the first five pages here at Fangoria, alongside some quotes from all concerned.
“And here’s our wonderful cover!”
