I know that y’all can never get enough Cthulhu, right? So I assume you’ll be checking out HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” which is fulla scarey, squishy Elder Gods and such, in this case being encountered by African Americans traversing a 1950’s New England also fulla scarey, squishy white racists, doubling the ambient dread. The series debuts August 16.
The conceptual conceit is very well laid out in this quote from director Misha Green in the New York Times coverage of the series:
“In horror, there’s a level of anxiety that your life can be taken at any moment,” Green said. “That’s the Black experience.”
