LiveScience has reported on archaeological excavations near the Israeli city of Rehob that include clay tablets displaying nude female forms and a scarab amulet inscribed with hieroglyphs. These artefacts appear to be some 3500, dating to the period when it’d appear the Israelite nation first established itself as an entity, a period recounted in the Tanakh with tales of early kings including Saul and David. The fact that they would seem to indicate some form of Goddess worship is interesting considering that the Tanakh, which Christians refer to as “The Old Testament” only discusses a single male deity as being the God of Israel.
