Ya know, ya can talk about yr Current 93 and Psychick TV and other outfits doing occult themed musick – but no one’s got shit on Erik Satie when it comes to heavy duty mystical connects. He was official composer of Josephin Peladan’s Mystic Order of the Rose + Croix, composed musick specifically for Peladan’s Salon de la Rose + Croix exhibitions and for several of his mystically-oriented plays. Acknowledging the Gnostic Revival popularized by Jules Doinel, Satie composed “Gnossiennes” while “Reverie de l’enfance de Pantagruel” obviously references Gnostic Saint Rabelais’ “Gargantua and Pantagruel.” And so on.
