Although the ancient Romans were the first people to have had a fire brigade, they did not have a police force (apart from a night-watch). Thus, victims of minor crimes such as petty theft had to fend for themselves and seek retribution by their own means. The most common way of doing so was by calling on the gods to punish the thief with a curse tablet.

We haven’t really looked into that. We operate under the assumption that copyright resides with the author. We’re typically reposting materials that have already been posted – and we are posting free of charge. If we charged we’d be contacting the copyright holder and making arrangements to pay them a portion of the proceeds from publication. We, of course, are ready to take posts down immediately if requested by the author or original posting site. By and large we post excerpt and a link to the full posts rather than reposting content in its entirety out of respect for the rights of the author and original site posting.
