A New Look at the Necronomicon

Here’s an interesting article posted late last year about a presentation given on the Necronomicon at the “Sacred Literature, Secular Religion,” conference. The presentation pointed out that this is in fact a fanciful work first mentioned in the canon of H.P. Lovecraft’s works of fictional. But in time, various persons produced works they tried to pass off as the text of an actual Necronomicon, the best known being that assembled in NYC by “Simon.” This one utilized extant translations of various Middle Eastern texts with additional material dreamt up by Simon, interpolations from other traditions all arranged as a grimoire for evocation of ancient deities. A small team worked on the project including O.T.O. member James Wasserman.  The damned thing was, that many people who utilized this Necronomicon got results, reputedly often quite unpleasant.
