Late this passed Spring, BBC Culture asked readers to choose and comment on the works of influential painter Paul Gauguin. Gauguin is of course one of the Phallic Saints included in the list intoned in the fifth Collect of Liber XV, The Gnostic Mass. Crowley thought highly of him and mentioned him in this 1921 diary entry:
