Soror Hypatia came across this article from a few years ago in the HuffingtonPost discussing the interweaving of alternative spirituality and kink. Ordo Templi Orientis and its liturgical arm, the Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica’s attitude on all forms of consensual sexual behavior are informed by Liber Oz’s declaration: Man [as in humankind] has the right to love as he will/ When, where and with whom he will.”
Last year, US Grand Lodge of OTO issued a formal policy statement on the matter:
“There shall be no consideration of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation when considering the fitness of candidates for admission, advancement, or appointment to office within Ordo Templi Orientis U.S.A.”.

“Although some religions and spiritualties are making great strides to become openly accepting of the GLBTQ community, kink is sometimes, if not the majority of the time, lost in the struggle as the discussion looms over whether kink is a sexual orientation. Even in the more liberal churches, such as Unitarian Universalism — where Leather and Grace, a kink-based UU group focusing on bringing the topic to a head and helping members find acceptance, has started the discussion — it is still a struggle to be kinky and spiritual all in one.”
