The Codex Gigas is a mysterious Mediaeval manuscript currentyi housed within the National Library of Sweden in Stockholm. The codex requires two people to lift its 165lbs. It’s been nicknamed the “Devil’s Bible” because of a striking, full page depiction of said entity included. Itcontains five long texts along with the complete Bible.
The book begins with the Tanakh, and it is followed by two works by the Jewish historian Josephus who lived in the first century AD. It ends with the New Testament and the last of the long works is a Chronicle of Bohemia by Cosmas from Prague.
It’s surrounded by various ominous legends: that it’s very pages are cursed: that it was written out by one monk who’d broken his vows and to escape more severe punishment offered to write out the sum total of human knowledge in one night — finally resorting to a pact with the devil to complete the work.
