I was reading the Summer 2025 issue of Bust Magazine and came upon an article by Hallie Lieberman discussing the experiences one Lynn Short had engaging with the religious known as “Gnosis.” This is of course a term for spiritual knowledge attained through direct mystical experience, but also the name of a faith founded on the teachings of Samuel Aun Weor nee Victor Rodriguez.
Over the course of his life, Weor wrote some 60 books outlining his vision and techniques for thurgy and thaumaturgy which would seem to be drawn from the typical latterday mix of all world religions and their mystical side currents including Qabala and Sex Magick — sound familiar?
The main wrinkle here is that this group’s methodology leans heavily on sex without orgasm – which indeed is one legitimate Tantric practice.
According to the Bust article the “Gnosis” group is worldwide, offers paid classes and training, encourages adherents to become formal missionaries and keeps Weor’s voluminous canon in print through the Glorian publishing house.
My point? I’m just always curious about any teachers and their adherents that makes use of the same building blocks as Thelema and the organizations that preserve and promulgate its teachings whether their program is one I finally endorse or no.
