Here’s an interesting piece on the origins of esoteric visual symbolism normally attributed to Jacob Boehme that appears at Pansophers.com. It begins:
“It is an acknowledged fact that the well-known image “How within this World three Worlds in each other” from Secret Symbols of the Rosicrucians, Altona 1785-88, is based on Jacob Boehme’s cosmology. Less well-known is the fact that there exist a couple of previous images about this motive from the 17th century. And there is even a text from that century which explains this figure in full.”
