Strange Angel Series Officially Greenlighted For a 2nd Season

CBS’s subscription streaming service All Access has announced that it’s officially green lighting the production of a second season of the Strange Angel series, which was conceived of as a five season project. In the opening credits of first season episodes, credits included the line “inspired by” George Pendle’s book Strange Angel which acknowledges the fact that the only historical character that appears is Parsons’ himself; all the other characters are fictional, drawn from the account of multiple actual persons or invented whole cloth. Likewise the scenes depicting the Gnostic Mass and other supposed OTO rituals do contain a few elements from those ceremonies but otherwise seem mainly like homages to the orgy scenes in Eyes Wide Shut. Nevertheless — it IS all good fun. On the other hand, I borrowed a copy of Martin Starr’s “Unknown God,” an account of the doings of the OTO and A.’.A.’. in this basic era and I gotta say that the TV series is a lot TAMER than what actually is reported as going on!

Meanwhile the next episode of the Thelema, NOW! podcast will feature George Pendle discussing the series, his book and so on.

TheWrap.com gave these details about the series renewal:

“CBS All Access has given a second season renewal to its Ridley Scott-produced drama ‘Strange Angel.’

“The series, which is based on George Pendle’s book of the same name, is inspired by the real-life story of rocket engineer and Thelemite occultist Jack Parsons, explores the intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction. It was created for TV by Mark Heyman and stars Jack Reynor as Parsons.”
