Earlier today, the Ivy Arts Centre at the University of Surrey was the site of a day-long investigation of “the intersections of performance, philosophy and ‘spirit’ in the lives and works of three key figures: the dance theorist Rudolf Laban, the French philosopher Henri Bergson and his sister, the artist and occultist Mina Bergson. ” The event was co-hosted by the University in conjunction with the Centre for Performance Philosophy and the Labanarium at the Guilford School for Acting.”
The event site states:
“This will include talks and workshops exploring Laban’s involvement in the fringe masonic organization, Ordo Templi Orientis, and the Bergsons’ relationship – both positive and negative – to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Combining talks and performance from international contributors, this event will consider the light and dark sides of these mystical thinking practices.
