In 1836 some boys out rabbit hunting found nine tiny coffins that were around 3 to 4 inches long in a small cave. Four of the coffins were stacked on top of four more with one stacked on top. Inside each coffin was a little figure that was carved out of a hollow piece of wood and each had clothing. The coffins on the bottom has been theorized to be older due to the amount of decay compared to the other five; the coffin on top had the least amount of decay was probably even younger. The coffins have changed many hands through the years until they finally ended up at the National Museum of Scotland. No one still knows why the coffins were created or what purpose they serve. It’s one of those mysteries that we may never understand but a little mystery keeps life interesting.
