Tomorrow will mark the 56 anniversary of Grady Louis MuMurty invoking the “emergency powers” granted to him by Aleister Crowley in a letter stating he should “take charge of the whole work of the Order in California.” When initially issued, these powers were subject to approval by O.T.O.’s OHO Karl Germer who’d died in 1962 without naming a successor.
So on July 19, 1969, McMurtry, Phyllis Seckler and Mildred Burlingame officially revived Ordo Templi Orientis in the state of California. It would be legally incorporated in that state roughly 10 years later.
