Theodor Reuss and Leopold Engel’s Journal of the Revived Bavarian Illuminati

Snagged from Dr. Richard Kaczynski’s FB:

“’Das Wort!’ is the German-language journal of Theodor Reuss and Leopold Engel’s revival of the Bavarian Illuminati.

“O.T.O. co-founder Reuss had a long-standing interest in the Illuminati, reportedly reviving the order in Munich in 1880 before rebooting it again around 1895 (1894?) with Engel, a like-minded seeker who in 1896 served as treasurer of the German branch of the Theosophical Society in Europe, with Reuss as vice-president and Franz Hartmann as president. Although Reuss and Engel parted ways in June 1902, Reuss remained fascinated with Weishaupt’s group, subsequently incorporating some of its grade names into the O.T.O. degrees of Minerval (0°) and Epopt/Perfect Pontiff of the Illuminati (VIII°).

“While many of this volume’s articles are anonymous, none are signed by Reuss. Reuss however maintained authority in the Illuminati, and between 1901 and 1902 he granted William Wynn Westcott honorary membership and authority in the UK, and sent him copies of its constitution, regulations, and rituals.

“Despite having a journal and other publications, this Illuminati revival remains an under-studied, but important, linkage in the history of Western esoteric groups in the ‘long nineteenth century.’”

  2. It might interest people to know that the original German Illuminati founded in Adam Weishaupt’s time, continue today. They survived two world wars and continue to work their version of the ancient mysteries in a quite subtle, though academic way. Their rituals are more like those portrayed in my book the English illuminati, published by Ian Allan publishing 2019. They rejected Theodore Reuss new revived Illuinati in 1902 and ignored Leopold Engle attempts to join their lodges, which is probably why Engle went quite. They got around the problem that W.W. Westcott had with their old English version of the 18th degree of the Rose Croix, by insisting that new members have that grade already and they are attached to Scottish Rite Lodges. New researchers have found documents confiscated by the Nazis and seized by the soviets after the war, that show their continual existence and that they had nothing to do with the O.T.O.
