Star Sponge Vision Releasing “Crowley And Me” Album

megadodo.bigcartel.com have announced the upcoming release of an album entitled “Crowley And Me” by the band Star Sponge Vision (now, wherever could they have come up with that name?) The site’s description says:

“Jon Povey and Twink, both late of The Pretty Things, have formed a new band, Star Sponge Vision, and recorded a concept album about the English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, and mountaineer Aleister Crowley. Yes, that Aleister Crowley, the Great Beast!

“An influential figure, Crowley was included as one of the figures on the cover art of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and his motto of ‘Do What Thou Wilt’ was inscribed on the vinyl of Led Zeppelin’s album Led Zeppelin III. David Bowie referenced Crowley in the lyrics of his song ‘Quicksand’, while Ozzy Osbourne wrote ‘Mr. Crowley’.

Jon Povey has taken it further and written an entire album inspired by Crowley’s poetry. Indeed, it was while watching Kenneth Anger’s ‘Scorpio Rising’ with Jimmy Page that Povey became interested in the writings of Crowley. But it wasn’t until 2016, whilst he was working with Twink, that the idea became manifest. Twink said ‘Ever thought about looking into Crowley poetry and writing music to it?’ Another seed drops and sometime later Povey begins to write the album Crowley and Me.”
