Richard Wright’s Native Son is an incredibly important work of American literature. I won’t insult you with a synopsis… I’m sure you’re all acquainted with the work. Now HBO is airing a new film adapation of it, recasting the tail in contemporary America and with a view to addressing some of the criticisms that equally hallowed American author James Baldwin had made of Native Son. And on the entirely supercillious level – I’m digging that patch on the left sleeve of the character’s leather jacket.
