Recent surveys indicate that 66 percent of all men and 41 percent of American women view pornography at least once a month. Estimates show that as much as 50 percent of web traffic is porn. All of this remains speculative, given the cultural taboos about porn, leading us to ask ourselves: Why do we watch it?
David J. Linden in Vice adds: “On a psychological level, one can say that porn facilitates self-induced orgasm by increasing sexual arousal, by promoting fantasies and sexual escapism. These answers are correct but I suspect that they are also incomplete and fail to capture an essential neurobiological aspect of self-stimulation.”
