The Rites of Eleusis are seven dramatic rituals, written by the famed occultist Aleister Crowley. Often performed as plays, they are based on the seven classical planets which are Saturn, the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus.
In 1910 Aleister Crowley, Leila Waddell and Victor Neuburgh performed them at Caxton Hall, in London. Those seven performances, spread out over a two month period, were largely responsible for bringing Crowley’s secret occult organization, the A.: A.:, out into the public eye for the first time.
Crowley claimed that the Rites were designed to inspire the audience with ‘religious ecstasy’, and that merely reading them would help people “cultivate their highest faculties.”
